A Refreshed You
Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure done to reduce the size of the breasts and make them more proportional to the rest of the body. It can be performed for cosmetic and/or functional reasons. Howard Plastic Surgery offers safe and effective breast reductions for Jefferson City patients.
What Is a Breast Reduction?
Breast reduction surgery is an ideal way to make your breasts smaller. Excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin are eliminated to decrease the size of your breasts and reshape them.
Overly large breasts often come with emotional and physical issues such as low self-esteem; back, shoulder, and neck pain; and the struggle of finding the right clothing options. If you’ve been experiencing these problems, this plastic surgery procedure can literally lift the weight off your chest.
Do We Take Insurance for Breast Reduction Surgery?
While we do not accept insurance for breast reduction surgery, we gladly offer financing through CareCredit as an option to allow you to have your procedure now and make payments that fit into your budget.
We also gladly accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and personal bank loan checks. Improving your quality of life and restoring your self-esteem is a valuable personal investment in yourself!
Goods Candidates for a Breast Reduction
You may be a candidate for breast reduction surgery by Dr. Howard if you have large, heavy breasts, which may be the cause of breathing difficulties, back, shoulder and neck pain, poor posture, bra-strap indentations and chafing under your breasts. You may also desire a breast reduction if excessive breast size decreases your sense of attractiveness and self confidence. Some women also desire breast reduction surgery because they feel that their large breasts interfere with daily activities and exercise.
Breast reduction surgery is intended to give the patient a more attractive breast contour and smaller size. Breast reduction is also intended to free the patient from health problems associated with excessively large breasts. Another goal of breast reduction surgery is an improved self image.
Reviews
Words can never express the feelings I am having now. However, words are what I have…I come home from work after being on my feet all day and can no longer feel the cutting straps in my shoulders nor the ache and pain in my back. My entire outlook on life has changed. I am now able to sleep more than 3 hours at one time. Thank you for the excellent work you do. You are an answer to my prayers!Breast Reduction Patient
Your Breast Reduction Consultation
Once you’ve decided to get a breast reduction, the first step you need to take is scheduling a consultation. At Howard Plastic Surgery, you will discuss your medical history and overall health with Dr. Howard. These, along with your goals and expectations, will determine if the procedure is truly for you. She will then inform you about the details of the surgery, including benefits and possible complications.
The Procedure
The breast reduction procedure is done under general anesthesia. The nipple-areolar complex is moved upward and excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed. The patient goes home in a special bra that holds the breasts during initial healing. Initial discomfort subsides daily and can be controlled with oral medication. Scars will usually fade in 6-12 months.
What Is Recovery Like?
After your procedure, Dr. Howard will provide you with a pain medication prescription. You will be advised to take a couple of weeks off work and to avoid any strenuous activities during the healing period.
You will need to wear a surgical bra to help support your breasts and give extra protection. Keep in mind that minor bruising and swelling are normal and will be gone in just a few weeks.
